Road Trip Part 1

During my brief “vacation” from work, I took a road trip back to the area where I grew up and went to schools at. In preparation for the long commute next week to my new job at the Yahoo! Media Group, I had to take my car in for maintenance work. In the process, I got a free car wash from the Honda dealer where I took my car in, which is nice! Haha, for the last few days, I have not been able to recognize my car as easy as before since it is so shiny now.

Before catching dinner, we were driving by my undergraduate college, the University of La Verne, and I decided to stop by to pay a visit to my old computer science professors. However, I didn’t get a chance to see Ray, who was my undergraduate advisor while I was going to school there, because he had just left when I arrived.

The college has changed a lot since I was there. They moved everyone and a good number of departments around completely. I spent almost half an hour just looking for the new area where the Computer Science Department was moved to. Anyhow, I finally found the Computer Science Department by running into Seta, who is the chairperson for the CS Program.

For the ITC crew: Seta’s new office was our old ITC office. I walked in there and could not believe that we used to stack at least 10 employees in there at one time. The good old times!

I caught up with how things are going with the CS Program there at ULV and got a chance to speak to Ray over the phone from Seta’s office. To make the story short, they are really happy for me that I finished my CS Masters degree at UCI and about my new job. =)

Later that afternoon, Allison and I were both incredibly hungry and were craving the fish tacos from Senor Baja a.k.a. El Taco Nazo, who has the best fish tacos ever. We managed to make a quick dinner stop there. After the quick dinner stop, I got a call from Kim coming back from work. Moreover, right after the tacos fiesta, we met up with Kim and Angelic and her friend over across the street from where we were, at a Thai Cuisine place. Dinner 2.0 was pretty entertaining as Angelic’s friend was telling us all sort of funny stories while we were eating.

After all the commotions, we headed to my parents house to drop off and pick up some things.

I visited ULV yesterday too, though I didn’t stay that long. I had to take care of a bunch of stuff before flying back here. I went to AAIC and i was surprised to see that part of OIT has moved to the old hardware lab (suzie miller and her student worker stays there), brian tresner moved to the room right behind hit (that door was always locked whenever we used aaic 112 for classes) then hoyland and aurashand(?) now stays at the what-used-to-be part time professors office…

I ran into brian tresner while talking to suzie at her new office. he told me that now aaic 112 becomes a computer lab.. which is supposedly a replacement for one of the labs in founders hall…

apparently,, they just did all these movements 2 weeks ago.. i wanted to stay there a bit longer to see what else has changed (ie the new leo’s den) but i had to leave. i’ll try to visit again around thanksgiving.

btw… we had fun having dinner with you guys last sunday. too bad that i forgot to take any pics.

good luck with your new job! definitely let us know when you fly back up here again. maybe bring allison too so we can show you around the city.

Good times! I’m glad you stuck with UCI through your masters program. I guess the school isn’t as unlucky as you initially thought.

Allison, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Love you too!

Laureen, we had a blast having dinner with you two too! In regard to ULV, they moved almost everything around! I didn’t get a chance to visit OIT as I didn’t even know where they are located at. Besides, I don’t know that many people from OIT to visit. =) Did you get a chance to see Ray? Anywho, I’ll let you know the next time I am flying up there for the day again.

Derek, haha yeah for once…I was going to have a part 2 to this blog entry but I never got around to it… =(

Darren, nod, school was stressful but it has its fun regardless and I do miss it…funny as it sounds.

P.S. Darren and Derek, I see you two are back safe and sound. I’m glad. I’m sure you guys had a wonderful time in Hawaii…I saw the pictures on Darren’s Flickr. =)
