Yay! My “concession” phone just came in today. It’s my work phone and since I work for Verizon Wireless, everything is included with it free of charge. It’s hard to beat that.
You can check out its spec on the Verizon Wireless site. I read somewhere that it is the first phone in the U.S. to be sporting the highest megapixel camera.
I’ve been playing with it since I’ve got home today. It’s a neat little phone. On the flipside, it turns into a full-fledge 3.2 megapixel digital camera.
The camera amazingly takes pretty nice pictures. The autofocus (which I really need, right Pete?) takes a couple seconds for it to be in effect or as you might put it, the shutter lag a bit longer than as with a typical modern digital camera. Moreover, the flash could use a bit more lighting. All in all, the Samsung SCH-a990’s digital camera features are almost up to par with my Canon SD200 digital camera.

Now I can carry just one device instead of two (phone and camera)!
The Samsung SCH-a990 can also be used to record movie clips that can be transferred onto your desktop via TransFlashâ„¢/microSDâ„¢ memory card. Likewise, your pictures, VCAST music, MP3’s can be backed up, or transferred to your desktop with a TransFlashâ„¢/microSDâ„¢ memory card.
Another thing that stood out for me from the typical phones you see nowadays is the VoiceSignal’s speaker-independent voice dialing. I was showing Allison how I can actually talk to my cell-phone and get it to call anyone on my contact list without having to train my voice with the phone beforehand. Moreover, I can tell it to call any numbers I’d like. It was as neat as ever on how well it works.
The phone also comes with a composite cable to output to a TV with its TV-Out Capability. I have yet to try that out. So I’m not sure how well it works.

Screen flips back to work like a digital camera.
For me, some of the best things about this cell phone are the packed Verizon Wireless sweet features such as VZ Navigator (which is a full-featured GPS application with turn-by-turn navigation, utilizing cell-towers triangulation instead of satellites), VCAST, and a few other that I haven’t ventured upon yet. I will try to cover one by one as I try them all out in the next couple of blog entries.
You’ve got to wait and check out my post on VZ Navigator, I don’t know about Allison, but I’ve got the most fun out of it driving around and trying to outsmart the GPS system into recalculating my routes all afternoon!
The next thing I need to shop for is a Bluetooth headset device. I was joking with Allison about how I can’t wait to look all schizophrenic as I walk around talking to myself with the hands free bluetooth headset. Fun fun.

Dork.
I love you… even though I have been replaced by your new toy… :(
I agree – the VZ Navigator thing is really cool!
